Posted: Oct. 3, 2005
Children's Hospital continues to work to reopen the hospital with a target date of Monday, October 10. According to Steve Worley, "the city's water supply is not what we had hoped it would be, and extra time is needed to make alternative arrangements to ensure safe drinking water for our patients, their families and our staff. The safety and comfort of our patients remain our top priority and is the driving force behind this decision."

Thanks to the collaboration of the CHCA network, a total of 650 staff and patients were safely evacuated from Children's Hospital of New Orleans within a 24 hour period. The 100 patients are now being cared for by CHCA hospitals in the region. Kansas City, Houston, Fort Worth, Little Rock, Miami, Dallas, Birmingham, Atlanta and Le Bonheur all received patients and/or assisted in the transport of patients and supplies. Numerous CHCA Owner Hospitals continue to assist in other ways. "The support of the southern CHCA coalition has been tremendous," said Andree Trosclair, Vice President of Human Resources, Little Rock; this sentiment has been echoed many times over across the CHCA network. Please know that the secondary wave of patients affected by Katrina has begun and we expect CHCA hospitals to see increases in patient transports over the next two weeks.
